Situation in the Russian Market of Sugar; the Survey of 30 Leading Importers of Sugar in the Russian Federation (I quarter 2004)
In first quarter of 2004, Consulting Agency Market Advice Ltd. carried out a research study of the Russian market of sugar in order to investigate situation of its import, influence of the "floating" duties for raw sugar purchased from abroad, short-term prospects of the market and shares of its main players in the total volume of sugar made. For this purpose, management personnel (commercial directors, analysts, marketing experts, logistics, foreign trade experts) of 30 largest importers of sugar to Russia was questioned.
Data were obtained as answers to the following questions:
- Types of sugar imported by the surveyed companies
- Quality characteristics of imported raw sugar from different manufacturing countries Quality characteristics of imported white sugar from different processing countries
- Spheres of further use of the sugar imported to the Russian Federation
- Attitudes of participants of the survey to the fact that the market of sugar in the Russian Federation is a natural monopoly
- Distribution of imported sugar in the main consuming branches
- Banks that provide financial support to importers of sugar to the Russian Federation (in opinion of participants of the survey)
- The 5 largest companies delivering maximal volumes of sugar to the confectionery branch (in opinion of the experts)
- Influence of the established "floating" duties for raw sugar purchased from abroad on its consumption in the confectionery branch in 2004
- Difference between the average import price and the average retail price of sugar in the Russian Federation in 2004
- Difficulties for a company importing sugar in its delivery to the territory of the Russian Federation in 2004
